Awesome writing
We have some new whiteboards to use at writing time. They help us to do our letters the right size and think about which letter are tall and which letters go below the line. Here are some of our Year 1s work. Looking good!
Structures
We have been learning about 'Structures' and what makes things stand up. We had to create a 'house' for the little 'eskimo man'. It had to be tall enough to fit him in. We used toothpicks and blutack which was a bit tricky to start with. We persevered though and did a great job!

Cooking from around the world
What a great afternoon M2B and M2A have had together. Chinese dumplings and American cookies as well as mini cupcakes were some of the food that the children got to make and then eat this afternoon. A very big thank you to Hugo and Christina's parents and John and Natalie's mum for coming along and sharing with us. It was great!!

Art Gallery Visit
Yesterday we went to the Art Gallery. We looked at different exhibits there. We listened to the story of Maui and how he fished up the North Island. We also acted out this legend as well as Maui and the story of how we got fire.
Then we went to the classroom and created a 'koru lizard' masterpiece which you can see below and in our class.

Our Science this week
This week we made some kinetic sand. We needed some sand, cornflour, detergent and water. We mixed it up. Some of our groups had to add more water or more sand but we persevered and in the end our mixtures were successful. The kinetic sand worked!
We tried to make different colours but found that adding colour to the water mixture didn't change the colour of the sand. That could be an experiment for next time - how do you get your kinetic sand to be coloured?
